  35. in WNOS.

  37. The situation here in HB9 is the follwing. We have TNN digi's with dual-speed 
  38. ports running DAMA. So the only solution for us is to have a NOS version that is 
  39. able to wrok DAMA and Netrom (as L2-digipeating is off).
  40.  
  41. Many hams around here wan't to give TCP/IP a try and we (at the Swiss ARTG) 
  42. would like to provide them with some sort of starter-package.
  43.  
  44. What I did so far was giving WNOS5 a try. I ran into the following problems:
  45.  
  46. When switching NETROM on the code wouldn't compile as there were 2 bugs in the 
  47. code (one vaiable was declared with an underscore in the name but used without 
  48. (can't remember which one it was but i can look that up) and in one of the 
  49. subroutines used by NETROM a pointer was not declared). 
  50.  
  51. After i fixed these two bugs i was finally able to run it and last weekend 
  52. hb9ccq (Franz) in i were able to establish connections (Ping, Telnet and FTP) 
  53. over Netrom.
  54.  
  55. Now i have the following new problems: The WNOS5-code as distributed does not 
  56. seem to work with the well-known ftpusers-file but with files like ftp.rc, 
  57. smtp.rc etc. to manage access to the WNOS. I found out so much from diggin into 
  58. the code but i couln't work out so far what the exact syntax of these files is.

  60. Furthermore many commands changed their syntax and i couldn't find any 
  61. documentation at all about this new release.

  63. Is there a DAMA implemntation into some older WNOS4x version ? WNOS4 seems to be 
  64. documented rather good and it seems to make more sence to go on that one than to 
  65. WNOS5.

  67. We are not looking for some WNOS running under Linux (our Gateway HB9AB runs 
  68. JNOS on Linux as on the special link-qrg it is connected to hb9zrh there's no 
  69. DAMA). but under plain MSDOS. We don't need a version with all the bells and 
  70. whistles but a version where an end-user can get his mail with POP, do FTP to 
  71. the Gateway and maybe TELNET to it.

  73. I would appreciate any help very much as i feel lost in that WNOS5 code !

  108.     many files in Linux packages have previously
  109.     unseen "extensions" when their names have
  110.     been forced to be cramped into MSDOS 8+3
  111.     format:
  112.         TGZ    ==    tar.gz
  113.         TAZ    ==    tar.Z
  114.     just for example.

  121.     Then you need following components:
  122.         - 8 MB RAM
  123.         - 80 MB disk (10 MB swap, 70 MB Linux)
  124.         - kernel src + base binaries    20 MB
  125.         - compilers             6 MB
  126.         - network programs         6 MB
  127.         - Wampes + AX25 on kernel     5 MB
  128.          (plus Emacs + X-window + ...)
  129.     (cavet emptor on the sizes, however they should be close..)
  130.  
  131.     Unless you have free (or dirt cheap) access to FTP,
  132.     picking up the necessary 20-30 diskettes full of data
  133.     may become more expensive, than buying a CD-ROM driver
  134.     and Slackware or SLS (and what others there are) CD..
  135.     (not to mention the SOURCES that are usually present on
  136.      those CD-ROMs as well.  Binary distributions are of
  137.      minimized size per necessity..)

  150. Thanks to all who aided me in my quest for a FTPD.NLM.  Any body else req
  151. a trial of the murkworks version needs to mail them direct as the demo
  152. version on the listed server has expired.

  154. Has anybody used the FTPD.nlm from the Uni of CZ.  It all seems to run ok
  155. but when I ftp the server I dont get any response even though
  156. the server knows its me and even logs me in th4e log files when Im done
  157. Any Clues?
